What is Curried Mince?
Curried Mince is a classic Australian budget family meal. It is similar to the Indian curry- Beef Keema Curry, but this recipe is less spicy and has fewer ingredients.
You will find a lot of savoury mince curry recipes that use all kinds of vegetables, like carrot, peas and potatoes or even fruit (apple). This epic version uses just a handful of basic veggies and some spices to make it full of flavour.
Make it to eat as-is. Serve it with toast, mashed potatoes (or cauliflower) or it is also a great filling for a toasted sandwich!

The Ingredients
Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the quantity of ingredients used and the full detailed recipe for this ground beef curry recipe!
Beef Mince – I prefer to use an 80/20 beef-fat ground beef mince. You can swap for any mince that you like. I do find the fattier beef gives a better texture to this curry. You can use lean beef mince if you prefer. If making a vegan or vegetarian alternative consider using a medley of mushrooms over plant-based mince as it is higher in carbs.
Beef Stock – for me this is easily my most important ingredient. Choose the best-tasting beef stock you love. I prefer Urban Forager or Grevity RX pastes.
Seasoning – I use smoked paprika and a mild curry powder like Malaysian Meat Curry Powder. Keens Curry powder is often used in curried mince, and is found in most Aussie household pantries. Add as much or as little curry as you like. You can use a curry paste if you prefer. Red curry paste or even a panang curry paste would work well.
Vegetables – to keep the dish low in carbs I opted out of the usual potatoes and frozen peas. You can use any vegetables you prefer. I used cabbage and onion. Zucchini, bell peppers, diced carrots, or kale would also be awesome.
How to Make It
Step 1. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; sauté until the onion softens, about 1-2 minutes.
Step 2. Turn the heat up to medium-high. Add the curry powder and paprika; stir to combine and cook for 1 minute.
Step 3. Add the mince; cook stirring occasionally until browned. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to break up any clumps of mince.
Step 4. Add tomato paste and stock; bring to a boil. Simmer until the sauce begins to thicken.
Step 5. Add the remaining ingredients and cook until the cabbage has wilted. Remove from the heat. Season to taste. Serve with fresh chopped parsley and a squeeze of lemon.
Storing & Freezing
Storing – Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.

I prefer to use an 80/20 beef/fat ground beef mince. You can swap for any mince you prefer. If making a vegan or vegetarian alternative consider using a medley of mushrooms over plant-based mince as it is higher in carbs. CURRY POWDER
My memories of old fashioned savoury mince always used Keens Curry Powder. You can use it or any of your favourite brands of curry powder. I use either a curry paste like my Massamam red curry paste or the Babas Meat Curry Powder substitute – Malaysian Meat Curry Powder. Fresh or frozen peas are completely optional. I know some people just hate them and of course the low carb crowd may not want the extra carbs. I love to use a smattering of fresh peas with mine that are stirred through at the end to slightly warm them, but keep them fresh and crunchy. BLENDERS & FOOD PROCESSORS We test all our recipes with a Thermomix. I have made this in the TM5 and TM6. You can use a Magimix, or similar alternative to a Thermomix.
