What Are Homemade Keto Waffles?

Homemade keto waffles are a fantastic low-carb alternative to traditional waffles. They’re made with ingredients like almond meal, whey protein powder, and cream cheese, making them perfect for those following a keto or low-carb diet. These waffles are crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and absolutely delicious! Fill, stuff, or top yours with all your sweet or savory favourites. Let’s get waffling!

Why I Love This Recipe

I love this recipe because it’s so adaptable and perfect for meal prepping. You can whip up a batch on the weekend and have delicious, low-carb waffles ready to go all week. Plus, the combination of ingredients ensures they’re always crispy and flavorful!

The Ingredients

  • Almond Meal – Blanched finely ground almond flour or almond meal provide a great texture to crispy almond flour waffles. If you’re allergic to nuts, you can try using sunflower seed flour or sesame seed flour as substitutes. I know there are some coconut flour waffles recipes, but I have not tried them.
  • Whey Protein Isolate – Essential for crispy waffles. You can use flavoured whey protein isolate for an extra twist.
  • Cream Cheese and Sour Cream – Add moisture and richness to the batter. Greek yogurt can be used as a substitute for sour cream.

How To Make Keto Protein Waffles

Step 1. Melt butter on the stove or microwave for 1 minute.  Add all ingredients to a mixer with the dough hook or food processor and mix until completely combined.

Step 2. Cook in a preheated and buttered waffle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions.  If using additional toppings add them to the mix and cook as instructed.

What to Serve with Keto Waffles

Keto waffles are incredibly versatile and can be served in various ways:

  • Dessert Delight: Drizzle with melted sugar-free chocolate and serve with a scoop of keto ice cream.

Best Ways for Storing Keto Waffles

To store your keto waffles, let them cool completely and place them in an airtight container. They can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. For longer storage, freeze them in a ziplock bag. When ready to eat, thaw in the fridge and reheat in a toaster or oven to maintain their crispiness.

I wanted my own pancakes to celebrate Canada Day with the rest of my family so I whipped up a batch of these. I cooked them up in a frying pan and they are the best Keto pancakes Iโ€™ve ever made. Firm structure yet light and fluffy and delicious.

Yes these are really good. They do get crispy, which is wonderful. I had an issue with the measurements because, American here, metric is alien to me, and the US conversion was such odd numbers. So I did, ohhhh 2 ounces and a dollop more… So my measurements were no where near accurate and my final product was a bit oily. But still delicious!

    1. Megan

      Hi Leslie,
Can you tell me what kind of measurements you would normally use as I can change the conversion metrics. Sorry the turned out oily, the version with my metric measurements isnt an oily mix. Happy to help get the measurements converting right for you though x

OK Wanted something indulgent for breakfast…so made this with a bit of vanilla and added sweetner….they were da bomb! So crispy delicious with a bit of butter and sf male syrup.

  15. Emily

These are by far my favourite waffles, so crispy and taste just amazing! I make a whole batch and freeze the extras for when I need a sweet treat. I top with a few berries and plenty of yummy cream

This made 8 thick waffles in my Breville Waffle Pro (they’re pretty big) and the best keto/LCHF waffle recipe I’ve tried to date. I did sub the xanthum gum with ground psyllium, and it was super thick, I had to add an additional egg and some milk to get it to pouring consistency
