Why We Love This Recipe

This seriously is the best milk for keto. If you are not dairy-free and love milk in your coffee or tea, you will love this low carb milk recipe. Using only 3 ingredients you will most likely already have at home.

Simple – With the ratios already worked out for you, and using just three ingredients, this takes no time at all to make.

Low carb and tastes great – 2 grams of net carbs in a serve and this milk tastes so much better than most keto milk.

Versatile – Use homemade keto milk in anything you would use normal milk in, like in a bowl of Keto Porridge, a big stack of Keto Pancakes or drink it on its own!

Thermal-cooker friendly – This is as easy as a recipe can get, but I have included instructions for using a Thermomix and a Magimix as well.

cream water and salt in individual containers on a blue wood background

This is one of the simplest recipes you could ask for. The ratios I have used result in my preferred consistency for using in cooking as well as in a drink.

Thickened cream – This is also known as heavy cream.

Water – The ratio of water to cream can be adjusted if you’d like your keto milk thinner or thicker.

Salt flakes – I choose to use Salt Flakes as the flavour is more pronounced.

Sweetener – This is an optional addition, but if you prefer slightly sweet milk, add a bit of your preferred sweetener. I use Sukrin:1, but any sweetener of choice that has a ratio of 1:1 with sugar would be the perfect choice.

How To Make Keto Milk

What are the best milk substitutes on a Keto Diet?

Which keto diet milk to use really does depend on personal taste.

I love this keto milk made with heavy whipping cream the most for many of the above reasons. It is still keto milk with dairy, so really is just much lower in carbs.

Lesser-known low-carb vegan milk like our Hemp Milk or Peanut Milk are also great milk substitutes for a keto diet.

Hot Tips & FAQs

Can I make and store keto milk in advance?

Yes, you can make up a larger amount and store it in the fridge, just as you would with normal milk. As it takes no time at all to make, I prefer to make it as I need it.

What is the benefit of this milk instead of nut or non-dairy milks?

Being dairy-based milk, the benefit is none of the aftertaste you can get from nut or non-dairy milk, which is a treat after getting accustomed to going without dairy!

Does this milk curdle in tea or coffee?

No, it doesn’t! How amazing is that!

Is milk keto friendly?

No, it isn’t. Milk contains around 12 grams of carbs per cup. Milk contains more sugar than cream.

Notes

The best in low carb milk alternatives.
There are many keto milk substitutes. Some you may like more than others for different uses such as baking, a cup of tea of frothing milk for a latte or cappuccino.
Here are some of the best keto milk alternatives other than this recipe.
Unsweetened almond milk, unsweetened coconut milk, hemp milk, and macadamia milk are just a few examples of keto friendly milk with a low carb count.
This keto milk recipe is the best tasting keto milk alternative for coffee, in my opinion. It doesn’t curdle. It froths well like whole milk. And it doesn’t take weird.
INGREDIENTS
Thickened or full fat heavy cream is the main ingredient. With the addition of salt flakes and water it is amazing how tasty this keto milk is.
STORAGE
Storing Keto Milk: The recipe makes just one cup but you can make it in larger quantities and store in the fridge. As it takes no time at all to make, I prefer to make it as I need it. Store it up to the best before date of the cream used.
How to make a cappuccino in the Thermomix: Add milk, coffee and sweetener if preferred to the mixing bowl. Heat for 9 min/80°C/Speed 1. Froth for 20 sec/Speed 6.
How to make Keto Milk in the Magimix: Use the food processor attachment of your Magimix and process in continuous mode for one minute.

Love this recipe. So easy and quick to make. I use it anywhere where milk is called for in a recipe and makes a great latte without the guilt. Thanks Megan.

Flavor was really good, but my HWC is 1 carb per Tbsp so my keto milk at the end was 5 carbs for 1 cup of keto milk, not 2 like on the recipe.

    1. Megan Mad Creations Hub

Still low enough and good fat too Elizabeth.

No wonder my keto start has been rocky.. I didnt have this milk in my life. Now I can have my milky tea and not be affected. Bound to power ahead now.
Thank you so much for this gem.

      You are very welcome Lisa.

Delicious, but what is the key making this frothable- does it have to be chilled first? I used my Breville Milkcafe, but no froth, just yummy steamed milk.

    1. Megan Mad Creations Hub

Maybe try it chilled Lisa. I have to admit I make the milk up and keep it in the fridge so this could be a secret.

Hi can I ask what is heavy cream? Is it the same as the UK whipping cream or double cream? Do you whisk it prior to diluting with water?

    1. Megan Mad Creations Hub

Hi Carole, it is whipping cream.

    1. Megan Mad Creations Hub

Absolutely amazing, I was using cream then almond milk but am soooo glad Megan had this as it’s now my favourite in tea, coffee and chai and actually anything I put it in โค

Thanks for the recipe, a great alternative to get off full cream milk. Froths well for my morning coffee ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Debbie Kroezen

Can I ask why the salt?
And if you buy a good milk with the cream already on the top ( like old fashioned milk) would it be just as good??

    1. Megan Mad Creations Hub

I definitely think the salt adds to the flavour.

I think my brother in law would love to see this recipe. He’s been doing Keto for a few years now with great success, but he does enjoy coffee creamer from time to time. I will definitely be passing this along. I think I might even have to give it a try and add some caramel stevia!

    1. Megan Mad Creations Hub

Awesome Nicole. I hope he finds it useful.

  19. Nicole Washington

Wow! I didn’t realize that there is a keto version for this diet plan! I learned something new!

I’d never heard of Keto milk before. I’ve been drinking my coffee (ugh) without anything in it. Some of the creamers have all of that faux stuff in it and heavy cream is just too much. This is perfect. I’m making some today.

    1. Megan Mad Creations Hub

I am so glad you are going to give it a try Marisa. It is so much better than just cream.
