Chocolate Strawberry Clusters

Chocolate Yogurt Strawberry Clusters are a delicious combination of creamy Greek yogurt, fresh strawberries, and coated in melted chocolate. This simple viral dessert has gained popularity for its minimal ingredients and quick and easy preparation. The best bit is how easy it is to customise them! My healthy yogurt clusters recipe is sugar-free, low in carbs and high in protein. The recipe is so simple to “make your own,” and I am sure you are going to love these nearly as much as I do! 😂

Variations

  • Fruit Variations: Make blueberry yogurt clusters, raspberry, (higher carb) mango and banana for a different fruity twist.
  • Yogurt Flavors: Use flavored Greek yogurt, plain yogurt, protein yogurt, or even whipped cottage cheese for a high protein strawberry cluster!
  • Nutty Additions: Incorporate chopped nuts like almonds or pistachios. Add seeds or coconut flakes. The options are endless.
  • Sweeteners: Adjust the sweetness with sugar-free maple syrup, more sweetener or, as I prefer, sweetened whey protein isolate. The brand I use is naturally sweetened with thaumatin which is very low-carb and keto-friendly.
  • Different chocolate: I used ChocZero White Chocolate Chips for these images. It was all I had at the time of making them. I added the tiniest pinch of my favourite Matcha Powder and dusted with another pinch of gold dust.

The Ingredients

  • Greek Yogurt: I use full-fat plain Greek yogurt or my homemade sugar free strawberry yogurt recipe. You can use protein yogurt, strawberry yogurt, homemade yogurt or swap for mascarpone, quark, or whipped cottage cheese. I use unsweetened yogurts where possible. Use coconut yogurt or plant-based yogurt for a vegan yogurt cluster recipe.
  • Powdered Sweetener: Sweetens the yogurt without grittiness. Alternatives include liquid sweeteners like monk fruit concentrate.
  • Whey Protein Isolate: Enhances protein content and adds flavor. I use Amino Z flavoured whey protein isolate. It adds 30g of extra protein per scoop (each scoop is around 30g/1oz in weight). and sweetens the yogurt without any need for additional sweeteners added. It can be omitted or replaced with plant-based protein powders.
  • Strawberries: Fresh strawberries offer the best texture, but frozen ones can be used if thawed and drained. Use any berry you like or add any mix-ins you love.
  • Dark Chocolate Chips: Ensure they are sugar-free for a keto-friendly option. Milk chocolate or white chocolate can be used based on preference.

Pro Tips for Perfect Strawberry Clusters

Parchment Paper: Use parchment paper or a silicone lined baking sheet to prevent clusters from sticking to the tray. Personally, I prefer to use a silicone mould for mine as it takes care of keeping the yogurt bites uniform in size and easy to pop out and coat in chocolate.

Uniform Sizing: Keep clusters similar in size for even freezing and coating.

Quick Dipping: When coating with chocolate, work swiftly to prevent the yogurt from melting. The chocolate sets quickly, so if you are going to sprinkle with anything, do it quickly.

How to Make Yogurt Clusters

Step 1. In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt, sweetener or protein powder (if using). Stir until smooth.
Step 2. Gently fold in the chopped strawberries, making sure they’re evenly coated.

Step 3. Line a tray with parchment paper. Drop spoonfuls of the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, keeping them nice and chunky.
Step 4. Place the tray in the freezer for 2-3 hours until the clusters are firm.

Step 5. Melt the dark chocolate with coconut oil (if using). Once the clusters are frozen, dip each one into the chocolate or drizzle generously over the top. Sprinkle with freeze dried strawberries, nuts, or a little gold dust like I did.
Step 6. Place back in the freezer for 10–15 minutes until the chocolate sets. Eat straight from the freezer. They are so awesome!

Thermomix Method & Tips

For those using a Thermomix:

  1. Place Greek yogurt, and protein powder into the mixer; blend 20 seconds on speed 5. Scrape down the sides and repeat if necessary.
  2. Gently fold in chopped strawberries until evenly coated.
  3. Line a tray with parchment paper. Drop spoonfuls of the mixture onto the tray, forming chunky clusters.
  4. Freeze for 2-3 hours until firm.
  5. Melt chocolate with coconut oil (if using). Once clusters are frozen, dip each into the chocolate or drizzle over the top.
  6. Return to the freezer for 10–15 minutes until the chocolate sets.

Tips

  1. Don’t make the clusters too thick. The thicker they are the harder they are to bite into.
  2. Work quickly when coating with chocolate to maintain the clusters’ shape.
  3. Ensure the yogurt mixture is well-chilled before dipping in chocolate to prevent melting.

Serving Suggestions

These chocolate covered strawberry yogurt clusters are versatile and can be enjoyed in various ways:

  • Solo Snack: Enjoy them straight from the freezer as a tasty treat. Serve them as pictured or insert a popsicle stick into each yogurt cluster before freezing. Enjoy as a treat on a stick or shape into bars and make frozen strawberry yogurt bars! Yummo!
  • Dessert Topping: Crumble over oatmeal, pancakes, or waffles for a decadent breakfast or dessert. Or even make mini clusters and serve them with protein granola and keto milk for the best protein filled keto breakfast strawberry cluster cereal!
  • Parfait Layers: Layer with additional yogurt and granola to create a textured parfait.
  • Enjoy with a chai latte or dirty chai latte. A hot chocolate or even with a Egg Fast Shake would be amazing!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, plant-based yogurts like almond or coconut yogurt can be used as substitutes.

Place clusters in an airtight container, separating layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking. They can be stored for up to two weeks.

At a guess, you aren’t using protein powder and the yogurt was very watery. You can spoon into moulds, or strain the yogurt next time. They will still taste great, regardless!

As the recipe is written, no it isn’t. You could make them without the berries and flavour with Vital Zing Drops, keto chocolate, or a bit cocoa powder instead.

Notes

Tips for the BEST Keto Chocolate and Strawberry Clusters
Ingredients – Use your favourite yogurt. I love the tanginess of Greek yogurt, but if you prefer something like Vanilla Protein Yogurt, go for it.
Whey Protein Isolate – I use flavoured WPI. This takes care of flavour and sweetener with the need to add extra. I use Amino Z WPI as it uses clean ingredients and no sugar alcohols. Thaumatin is used as a sweetener.
Sweetener – Use as much or as little sweetener as you like. Pick one you love, but preferably pick a syrup or powdered sweetener so it isn’t crunchy at all.
Berries – You can use fresh or frozen, although chopping the frozen strawberries isn’t quite as easy. Use any berry you like. Not a berry fan? Swap for low-carb nuts or seeds. For our higher carb fans, try chocolate banana clusters or mango for something tasty and different or mix them in with the berries.
Chocolate – For this recipe and its nutritional calculation, I have used ChocZero Dark Chocolate. The macros can vary with different brands used. Use whatever chocolate you like and coat them in dark chocolate, white chocolate, or milk chocolate, or a combination of all three! I use 1 tablespoon of oil in the chocolate to thin it out.
Mix Ins – I add a tablespoon of slivered pistachios to my strawberry bites and I really loved the combination. Feel free to add in any nuts, coconut, or seeds into your cluster recipe too.
Storage Tip – Keep them in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 weeks. Keeping them airtight keeps them softer. Let them sit for a couple of minutes before biting in if they’re too firm.

These should be called yoghurt bombs, because they are the bomb! I make frozen yoghurt in my Ninja Creami and these are hands down better and easier than frozen yoghurt Iโ€™ve made in that! So simple and so quick, Iโ€™ve made it with vanilla protein powder and also with chocolate protein powder. I canโ€™t wait to try other fruits.
