A Dirty Caramel Cola Protein Shake is a delicious fusion of flavours. Sweet caramel, fizzy cola, and protein-packed goodness. This low-carb shake is perfect for a quick meal to top up your protein. Even this non-cola lover was an instant fan!

Why I Love This Smoothie

This shake feels like a dessert indulgence, but it’s packed with protein and low in carbs. I love how versatile it is and how quick and easy it is to make.

The Ingredients

  • Sugar-Free Cola: Use any brand or flavour you enjoy. A cola with a robust flavor works best to balance the sweetness. If using Cola Vital Zing mix it with soda water.
  • Caramel Protein Powder: Choose a high-quality, low-carb protein powder. If unavailable, substitute with unflavored whey protein isolate and a splash of sugar-free caramel syrup.
  • Collagen: Flavored collagen enhances taste and boosts protein. If unflavoured, add an extra sweetener or flavoring.
  • Egg: Provides creaminess and protein. You can leave the egg out if needed.
  • Optional Sugar-Free Syrup: For a swirl of extra caramel, chocolate, or vanilla flavour.

How To Make It

Step 1. Place all ingredients into a high speed blender and mix until smooth and creamy. It is that easy!

Variations

Dirty Mocha Cola: Swap caramel protein powder for chocolate protein powder and add a teaspoon of instant coffee or espresso powder.

Vanilla Cream Soda Protein Shake: Use vanilla protein powder, add a splash of vanilla extract, and opt for cream soda-flavored cola.

Citrus Burst: Choose orange or lemon-flavored sugar-free cola and add a pinch of zest for a zingy twist.

What to Serve with It

This smoothie is already perfect on its own, but if you want to pair it with something, go for low-carb snacks like a handful of nuts, keto high-protein granola, or a slice of low-carb toast with peanut butter or almond butter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make it ahead?

This protein shake can be made ahead of time or even frozen. It might have some separation, so give it a good shake before consuming.

Can I make this smoothie dairy-free?

Absolutely! Yes! Just swap out the whey protein isolate for egg white protein or plant-based protein. Collagen peptides would also be a great dairy-free smoothie choice.

Notes

Storage Tips: This shake is best enjoyed fresh, but if you have leftovers, store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Shake well before drinking, as it may separate.
Ingredient Tips: Use any cola or cola flavour you like. You do not specifically taste the cola in it, but it adds the background notes and a slight fizz to the shake. I used the Caramel Sauce from The Scoop eBook, but if you don’t have that book, you can use our other Caramel Sauce recipe.
Substitutions: You can use any flavoured flavoured whey protein isolate you like.
Alternatives: I always add eggs to my smoothies. I also love using a combination of flavoured whey protein isolate and flavoured collagen. You can add unflavoured WPI, but you may need to add a sweetener to the smoothie if not using a sweetened protein powder. For the chocolate flavour, you can use unsweetened cocoa.
