The Ingredients
How To Make A Chai Latte At Home
Step 1. Heat the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Do not let it boil. Turn off the heat, add the tea bags, and whisk in the chai tea powder. Let it steep for about 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure the powder is fully dissolved.
Step 2. Remove the tea bags. Turn the heat back to medium and add the vanilla extract and sweetener, if using. Whisk everything together until the chai latte is hot and well combined. Taste and add any extra spice or sweetener to preference.
Step 3. Pour the latte into mugs. If desired, top with extra milk foam and a sprinkle of cinnamon or freshly grated nutmeg. Enjoy with a slice of carrot cake or lemon curd cake for a tasty afternoon tea.

Variations
There are countless ways to customize homemade chai tea latte recipes. Here are a few variations:
- Spicy Chai Latte: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper for an extra kick.
- Vanilla Chai Latte: Increase the vanilla extract to 2 teaspoons for a more pronounced vanilla flavour.
- Pumpkin Spice Latte: Add 1/2- 1 teaspoon of ground pumpkin spice blend. Top with whipped cream and a drizzle of maple syrup.
- Cocoa Chai: Mix in 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder for a chocolaty chai.
- Iced Chai Latte – serve it over ice and top with cold milk foam or whipped cream. Make it per this chai tea latte recipe, or use a chai concentrate.
- Dirty Chai Latte – I am so keen to make one of these myself. A dirty chai tea latte is a delicious blend of chai latte and espresso, combining the warm spices of chai tea with the caffeine kick of coffee. Anything with coffee is perfect to me!
Cooking Tips
- Milk: Use any unsweetened milk of choice. Almond milk, coconut milk, and cashew milk are great keto-friendly options. Ensure the milk is only heated to a simmer and not boiled. Stir frequently while heating to prevent scorching.
- Tea Bags: Assam tea bags provide a robust flavour, but you can use any black tea you prefer. If the tea is too bitter, reduce the steeping time of the tea bags, or add a bit more sweetener to balance out the bitterness.
- Sweetener: Adjust the amount of sweetener to taste. Monk fruit or stevia are good keto-friendly options. Condensed milk can also be used for both the milk and the sweetener.
- Chai Tea Powder: Make sure it’s a good quality blend for the best flavour. If you find your chai latte too mild, try increasing the amount of chai tea powder or steep the tea bags for an additional minute.
