Blended cottage cheese is the easiest recipe you can make! It barely qualifies as a recipe, but oh boy, does it deliver. Smooth and protein-packed, this savoury cottage cheese breakfast bowl is everything!

🧀 What is Blended Cottage Cheese?

Blended cottage cheese is the secret sauce of high-protein, low-carb eating. Literally. You take humble, lumpy cottage cheese and give it a spin in the blender, and suddenly it’s silky, creamy, and ready to be used as a dip, spread, sauce, or base for all sorts of meals. It’s ridiculously easy, takes less than a minute. Then the best bit is turning it into a meal.

This cottage cheese breakfast bowls recipe is a new fave for me. Fresh, crunchy, savoury, and healthy, delicious and low carb keto friendly! Customise it how you will, but this is my tasty low carb breakfast!

Whipped Cottage Cheese Breakfast Bowl ingredients laid out in small bowls.

The Ingredients

  • Cottage Cheese: Full-fat is best for creaminess. If you’re using low-fat, you may need to add a bit of thickened or heavy cream, or olive oil for creamier texture.
  • Water/Cream: Water lightens it up. Cream makes it ultra-rich and velvety. Your call.
  • Salt: Sea salt or garlic salt adds depth. Add after blending to control flavor better.
  • Savoury cottage cheese breakfast toppings: – I use crunchy diced cucumber, tomatoes, fresh herbs, like dill and basil. Season the cottage well with salt flakes and cracked black pepper and serve with a drizzle of avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil. The toppings are endless.

🧠 Pro Tips

  • Great for kids and picky eaters, just call it “creamy cheese dip” and don’t tell them it’s cottage cheese 😏
  • Want to store it longer? Freeze in ice cube trays and blend again after thawing.
  • Add flavour after blending to prevent overmixing delicate ingredients like herbs.

What To Serve With It

For breakfast, I love this meal with crackers. Try crackers like our Seasoned Keto Crackers, Chicken Skin Chips, or Almond Flour Crackers. For the pictures I used some Olina Crackers I found in the pantry and they were really delicious with the creamed cottage cheese dip.

For a lunch bowl, add extra protein. Baked salmon, peri peri chicken, grilled ribeye, or any of your favourite meaty meals.

This recipe definitely lends itself for entertaining. Multiply the recipe and serve on a big platter for Christmas, Easter or Thanksgiving. Serve with leftover sugar free glazed ham or rolled turkey breast for easy eats when you can’t be bothered.

Not quite! Blended cottage cheese is smoother and lighter with a tangy, fresh flavor and far more protein. It’s a fantastic alternative to cream cheese but not identical.

Everything! Think sauces, dips, dressings, pasta bakes, sandwich spreads, even smoothies. It’s versatile, high-protein, and fits into nearly any meal.

Variations to Try

Savoury

  • Garlic & Herb: Add fresh dill, garlic powder, or chives to the cottage cheese before whipping or after.

  • Cheesy: Stir in grated Parmesan or nutritional yeast for a cheesy whipped cottage cheese.

Sweet

  • Fruity: Blend with a couple of berries or sugar-free jam.
  • Vanilla & Cinnamon: A few drops of vanilla and a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg. Drizzle with honey or keto honey replacement. Delish!

  • 1/4 cup diced cucumber
  • 1/4 cup quartered cherry tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp mixed herbs I use dill and basil
  • 2 tsp toasted pine nuts

Instructions

CONVENTIONAL METHOD

  • Place the cottage cheese into a high-speed blender or food processor. Blend on high until completely smooth and creamy. Scrape down the sides as needed. This should take about 30–60 seconds. If it’s too thick, add a little water or cream. If you want more saltiness or tang, add salt to taste.
  • Spread into a bowl or plate and top with all the toppings you love. I love serving this with crackers for some crunch, but let me tell you this tastes amazing straight off the spoon!

THERMOMIX METHOD

  • Place cottage cheese into the mixer; mix 30 sec/speed 5. Scrape down the sides and repeat until creamy. If it’s too thick, add a little water or cream and extend the mixing time. If you want more saltiness or tang, add salt to taste.
  • Spread into a bowl or plate and top with all the toppings you love. I love serving this with crackers for some crunch, but let me tell you this tastes amazing straight off the spoon!

Notes

Storage – Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Substitutions – Use can add 1-2 tbsp cream instead of water for a creamier consistency.
Flavour – Add salt, herb salt or garlic powder for some extra savoury flavours. Alternatively, add sweetener, extracts, cocoa powder, fruit, or melted chocolate for a sweet whipped cottage cheese.
Tips – Always blend until smooth, not just “good enough.” It makes the biggest difference.
🔥 Alternative Cooking Tips + Watch-Outs
For a heated dip, warm gently on the stove on low heat to avoid curdling.
If making ahead, blend just before serving for freshest flavour.
